Baby Shower Event : Tips, Dos and Don'ts

It has been three months since my first post! Seems I haven't gotten the hang of writing regurlarly in a blog...!
Well...

Hello! :) It has been now a couple of months since that Baby Shower took place. I have a few things to share about this kind of event, so here are my tips, dos and don'ts! Hopefully it will be somehow useful to you if ever you have the responsability to organize a baby shower! :)

It's no wonder that kind of event always end up as a girl's night. The main event of the day is the opening of gifts, which consist of clothings, diapers, bottle sets and nipple cream... Hardly anything interesting for the men! However, I do think there is a way to get the soon-to-be new Father and his friends to join the party too. It would make for a much more awesome and fun day!

A few ideas to make a baby shower interesting for everyone :

  1. Unwrapped gifts : Make it clear in the invitation there will be no "mass unwrapping" and all the gifts will be displayed on a table. Guests can bring their gifts directly to the future parents if there is something more personnal they would like to show! In any case, we are skipping two hours of unwrapping gifts... yay!
  2. Lots of food and drinks! Make it an open banquet.
  3. Fun games to entertain guests! Some ideas below...
  4. How about an invitation that states : come between 11a.m to 5 p.m., whenever you will be available to pop in the party and hang out with the future parents!

Choosing a THEME

You can always pick up the same theme the parents have put into the decoration of their baby's bedroom. They have put a lot of thoughts into it, it's almost part of the baby's character now! My friend has chosen the color purple to be the main color of the room and she has chosen the owl as the animal symbol (there is owls everywhere in the bedroom and they take the form of lamps, blanckets, decorations on the wall, and pillows!!)

I had at first designed a baby shower on the theme of Fairytales, however I sticked to the idea of purple and owls. (maybe I will make a post about this Fairytale Baby Shower).

Most popular GAMES

If you are making a party for both men and women, how about you divide them into two teams : men will be in the team "carrying" the DNA of the father, and women will be in the team DNA of the mother. Have them compete in games and when a team win in an activity, have the winning team choose what physical/personnality traits they leave to the future baby ! At the end of the day, a picture of the future baby will be made. Who knows how far from the truth this "drawing" will be! :)

Physical characteristics : hair color, hair texture, eyes shape, eye colors, nose, jaw, cheeks...
Personnality traits : Lazy, Creative, Ingenious, Disorganized, etc. (choose some traits that are very descriptive of the parents!)

For the creation of the baby, you can always use pictures of the parents, cutting the different parts of their face. However this option can lead to something very creepy...

If you are good in drawing, make a customizable avatar like in www.dollmaker.com with the different possibilities!

Other popular games are :
  • How many candies are in this bottle?
  • How big is the mother - Have guests cut a piece of ribbon to guess the size of the belly!
  • Who's watching the babies? - Give each guest a little doll or a broiled egg. Babysitting can be made throughout the day and the guest with the most babies win!
  • Baby Chug - Guest can compete in a drinking contest... with baby's bottles!

GIFTS

I'll end this post with the pillows we made to decorate the room for the newborn baby! Purple owls to keep her company... they look a bit worried (and the one in the middle seems a little creepy... XD).
